PCLT Bluebell Festival on May 3rd!

Brewster, NY — Blue Bells are the blue flowers that carpet the forest floor in spring – taking advantage of the fact that the trees are still leafless and sunlight still reaches the forest floor.  Their color reminds us how glorious Spring can be, especially after the Winter we just experienced!

To celebrate, the Putnam County Land Trust is hosting a Blue Bell Festival on Saturday, May 3rd.  The day will start at 7:30 am with a limited space, reservation-only, “Breakfast with the Birds with Dr. Jim Utter”.  Guests will participate in a Guided Bird Hike in the Ice Pond Basin, followed by a hearty breakfast.

At noon, the Main Event will kick off at the Dorrie O Brien house at 63 Cobb Road in Brewster with a Naturalist Led Vernal Pool Hike where guests will be introduced to fairy shrimp, salamanders and frogs.  From noon to 4pm, join PCLT at the their headquarters, the Dorrie O’Brien House at 63 Cobb Road in Brewster to celebrate the beautiful Blue Bells that are in bloom on the property.  Admission and activities are free, and will include Piped Piper Pony Rides and Petting Zoo, Face Painting, Snacks, and  children’s craft activities run by the Chuckie Goodnight Foundation.  There will also be two Naturalist Led Guided Wildflower Walks at 1pm and 3pm.  And of course, there will be potted Blue Bells form sale while supplies last!

Reservations are required for the breakfast, and space is limited.  The cost for the breakfast is $25, but all other activities are free and open to all.  For breakfast reservations or more info, contact PCLT at 845-216-4861 or e mail events@pclt.net.  In case of inclement weather, the rain date is May 4th.
